Your Guide: Michael Pears

About Your Guide: Michael Pears is a native of Lafayette. He has fished the coastal marshes of Louisiana all of his life. In the last several years, Michael has learned the benefits of using a kayak for coastal fishing for Redfish and Speckled Trout

Overview: This session will focus on 2 major areas: Advanced Kayak Fishing techniques and where to fish on the Louisiana coast. The first part of the seminar will introduce you to some advanced techniques you can employ from your kayak that will help you to catch more fish. These include how to use the depth of the water to your advantage, a concentrated review of how to use tide charts in selecting a fishing spot for the day and how to determine how a particular area will be affected by a certain tidal action. The centerpiece of this session is a Google Earth tour of the best kayak fishing spots along the Louisiana coast. Michael will show you specific areas that are great for kayak fishing from Sabine pass to south of New Orleans. Through the use of Google Earth, you'll learn where to put your boat in and where to paddle to reach great places to fish. If you are new to the sport - or have been fishing for a few years, you'll glean lots of new ideas for having more fun and becoming a more successful kayak fisherman.
